Sun who resells Red Hat's software, is competing for the same customers as Red Hat with their upcoming release of Solaris 10 in January.
Now that Sun has setted their differences with Microsoft, they see Red Hat as the bigger competition.
"The biggest competitor for Sun on x86 boxes right now isn't Microsoft-it's Red Hat," Jonathan Schwartz, Sun's president and COO, stated at a press event in San Jose.
Sun is reportedly going to release a free closed-source-code version of Solaris. "This is a move to get share on x86," Schwartz said. He believes that most companies will pay for the versions with tech support.
