Stateful Network Detection Technology Enables Successful NAC Deployments Covering the Entire IT Infrastructure...

The various approaches to network access control (NAC) have created a significant and even highly contested debate across the IT security industry. The benefits of NAC are clear, although have yet to be realized on a widespread basis.

IT visibility and real-time device detection are the first building blocks of the NAC process and, if achieved, remove attack vectors and enables NAC coverage to be applied to the entire network infrastructure. The full value of NAC can only be realized when the importance of complete IT visibility and real-time device detection is leveraged as the starting point for NAC deployments.

Any NAC solution that requires agents, infrastructure upgrades or inline devices has a mandatory pre-requisite prior to deployment - a network discovery project to obtain the inventory of all the devices attached to the network. However, the standard discovery process is lengthy, requires significant manual input and cannot identify all devices, especially those that are firewalled or unmanaged.

Once a NAC solution is in operation, the need to identify every change occurring on the network is equally as important as the ability of the NAC solution to quarantine and block devices. If a NAC solution cannot identify in real-time all the devices connecting to the network, IT managers will find their networks exposed to illegal or unauthorized access to the network on a regular basis.

Stateful Network Detection Technology for Comprehensive IT Visibility and Successful NAC Deployments

Insightix has developed a unique Stateful Network Detection technology that overcomes the drawbacks of existing device detection methods used by available NAC solutions, enabling the promise of NAC to be fully achieved.

Insightix's patent-pending Stateful Network Detection technology generates and maintains a real-time "state" of all devices connected to the network. This agentless technology enables any NAC solution to achieve full visibility of a network, no matter how complex or distributed, and be deployed across the entire IT infrastructure. Stateful Network Detection technology obtains a complete and accurate inventory of all network devices along with their location and associated properties and maps a precise and searchable physical network topology of the entire IT infrastructure.

The contextual information obtained by Insightix's Stateful Network Detection technology allows IT professionals to baseline their network for successfully planning NAC deployments. The complete and accurate inventory of each and every device connected to the network provided by Insightix's Stateful Network Detection technology enables a NAC solution to enforce network access control across the entire network. In addition, Insightix's Stateful Network Detection technology's real-time monitoring of the network provides a mechanism for a NAC solution to detect changes in real-time.
